Singapore has one of the highest Internet penetration rates in the world, but for children here, television till trumps the Web.
SINGAPORE, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Singapore has one of the highest Internet penetration rates in the world, but for children here, television till trumps the Web, local media reported on Wednesday.
In a survey, 64 percent of respondents aged between seven and 14 years old listed watching TV as an activity they had done the day before, local newspaper TODAY reported. In comparison, 46 percent had used the Internet.
Reading a non-school book and playing hand-held video games ranked third and fourth as most common activities.
The survey by cable television channel Cartoon Network polled 2,139 children in the region, including 120 from Singapore, over last month.
All the children were Internet users, but Singapore children were among the heaviest users, with over four in 10 spending two hours or more on a Web session.
Top online activities were gaming, watching videos and schoolwork-related surfing.
