SINGAPORE, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Singapore unveiled the torch design for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games on Friday.
The visual imagery on the torch takes its design inspiration from nature's two elements- fire and water. Fire represents the youth's passion and burning desire to learn and excel; water represents Singapore, with its origins as a seaport.
The torch's color is purple in the handle and silver on the top. The torch is 60 cm in height, 5-8 cm in width, and weighs about 1 kg. It is made of aluminum, with the handle coated with non-slip material.
Speaking at the unveiling of the torch event, Singapore's Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong encouraged Singaporeans to take opportunities to show the world the beauty of the garden-city and the warmth of its people.
