Thailand's tourism operators are praising the government's decision to lift the status of emergency in Bangkok, when it's the right time. The move came after the government revoked the special law in three major provinces.
The capital city and dozens of other provinces were declared area of emergency during the anti-government rallies in April. The tourism operators say the new move will help revive the sector and boost confidence among tourists. They have also worked hard to promote the lifting of the emergency law.
Political unrest in Thailand caused the number of foreign tourist arrivals to shrink by at least 60 percent. It caused losses of up to 8 billion baht or 250 million US dollars.
