China released its first batch of 5G standards at a conference in Beijing on Thursday.

These 14 standards cover core network, wireless access network, bearer service, security and electromagnetic compatibility, etc, and will provide better technical support for 5G commercial use.

They are fully in line with global 5G standards, reflecting the openness and transparency of the Chinese 5G technology.

Chinese companies account for 34 percent of global 5G standard essential patents, making very important contributions to the formulation of some key standards, said Xi Guohua, chairman of the China Communications Standards Association, one of the founders of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), a global telecommunications standards body.

In June 2019, 3GPP released a schedule for 5G global standards. It plans to decide the second phase of 5G standards in March 2020, and the third phase in June 2021.
