"A man with the determination to repay his motherland will never return home until he honors his commitment. It does not matter where his remains are buried as the beautiful rivers and mountains of the country are all desired graveyards." This is a poem that Deng Xiaoping wrote for Huang Shaoqian in 1930.
Huang Shaoqian was born in Bama Village, Xiangdu County (which belongs to present-day Tiandong County), Guangxi Province in 1903. In 1925, he was admitted to Guangxi Provincial No. 5 Middle School (present-day Baise Middle School). In the summer of 1927, he went back to his hometown and led the Xiangdu Farmer Movement. In November, he reorganized the peasants association of the county and served as the director and also the leader of the peasants' armed group. In January 1928, he launched the resistance leading the peasants' army in Xiangdu. In December 1929, he participated in the Baise Uprising. In 1934, he joined the Communist Party of China.
Huang Shaoqian was born in a rich family in Tiandong County. Influenced by Marxism, he voluntarily sold off his family property and actively devoted himself to the revolution. He once served as the battalion commander of the 21st Division of the 7th Red Army. He died for the country at 33 years old in 1936.
