Liu Yuelong, a former staff member at the Guilin center for disease and prevention (CDC) in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, died of sudden cardiac arrest on Aug 27 at the age of 32.

Born in 1989 in Gansu's Zhangye, Liu graduated from Sun Yat-sen University and started working at Guilin CDC in the prevention and control of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) in 2012.

Due to his dedication and passion for his work, Liu often worked until the early morning and only rested for three to four hours a day.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, Liu volunteered to fight on the front line, conducting epidemiological investigations and sampling during the day and completing his personal work in the evenings.

"Liu sacrificed the best nine years of his life for Guilin and he used his short life to showcase the noble spirit of giving priority to saving lives with ultimate love," said Pan Dingquan, the Party secretary of Guilin CDC.
