Kuantan Port in Malaysia undertook its first bulk cargo bonded business since its operation in 2019, staff members from Beibu Gulf Port Group announced on April 15.
A 290-meter cargo ship, loaded with 169,291 metric tons of coking coal from Australia, unloaded 99,000 tons of cargo at Kuantan Port, with the rest of the coking coal headed towards the United Arab Emirates.
Kuantan Port is the biggest and most dynamic port along the east coast of Malaysia. Beibu Gulf Port became a shareholder of the port in 2013, carrying out upgrades and renovations on the port with its Malaysian counterparts.
Operation of Kuantan Port has been facing many challenges since 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic as Malaysian factories and mines were unable to resume normal operation, while cross-regional logistics was also limited.
The port won this order within only one month and offered customized services for the customer adhering to their demands.
A staff member from Beibu Gulf Port Group noted that Kuantan Port's success in undertaking this business will bring over 1 million tons of cargo throughput annually for the port and will help increase the port's global influence.
