The Pearl River Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources has launched a level-IV emergency response for flood control as the strongest rainfall since this year's flood season is set to hit the river basin from Wednesday.

The commission launched the emergency response at 10 a.m. Tuesday, warning against the flooding and waterlogging that may ensue when the storm hits.

Rainfall hit the Pearl River basin on Tuesday, with some parts experiencing rainstorms. According to the forecast of meteorological and hydrological departments, from Tuesday to next Monday, rainfall will continue in most parts of the river basin, which expects to see heavy rainfall with the strongest intensity and the widest range since the flood season began this year, with accumulated rainfall forecast to reach 250 to 400 mm.

The commission on Tuesday dispatched two working groups to Guangdong and neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to assist and guide local flood prevention work.

The China Railway Guangzhou Group said operations of some trains passing through the region will be suspended or adjusted from Wednesday to Friday.

China has a four-tier flood control emergency response system, with Level I representing the most severe response.
