A high-level forum on the opening-up of Guangxi education and overseas students' education in China was held at Guangxi Minzu University on July 8.

Luo Yaoguang of the Education Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region said during the event that Guangxi will grasp opportunities brought by establishing a China-ASEAN education opening-up and cooperation experimental zone to turn the region into a center for China-ASEAN education cooperation.

Guangxi has organized local universities to hold 25 "Study in Guangxi" International Education Exhibitions overseas since the region started to offer scholarships issued by the Guangxi government for international students from ASEAN countries in 2011. The number of ASEAN students in Guangxi in 2019 surpassed the 10,000 mark for the first time.

In addition, Guangxi universities have been actively organizing overseas exchange events, benefiting 22,000 students in the 13th Five Year Plan period (2016-20).

Guangxi universities have helped train more than 130,000 technical talents for ASEAN countries and Chinese enterprises based overseas in the 13th Five Year Plan period.

Luo added that Guangxi will devote more efforts in areas like establishing high-quality exchange platforms, as well as carrying out more cooperation in joint school-running to move forward the construction of the China-ASEAN education opening-up and cooperation experimental zone.
