China's first self-developed deep-sea exploration robot Wenhai-1 has been delivered to its user, according to a CGTN report.
Designed and produced by the Shenyang Institute of Automation of the China Academy of Sciences, the autonomously remote-controlled robot can operate at a depth of 6,000 meters and has completed 17 dives during its sea trials.
The deep-sea robot has three working modes: autonomous, remote-controlled and hybrid and can switch modes smoothly.
Wenhai means "inquires to the ocean."
It will focus on deep-sea scientific research, such as surveys on the marine environment, biodiversity, specific targets on the seabed, and exploration of extreme deep-sea environments and mineral resources.
