Shanghai began taking reservations for inhaled COVID-19 vaccine boosters on Tuesday and will start administering them Wednesday.
People who have been fully vaccinated for at least six months and are 18 years or older can receive one free inhaled booster.
Currently, Shanghai residents only need one injected or inhaled booster.
Residents can register for the booster through the Jiangkangyun (Health Cloud) App and get vaccinated using their certificates or ID cards.
People aged 70 or older should be accompanied by family members or volunteers.
People from overseas living in Shanghai as well as compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan should follow previous policies to get vaccinated.
The inhaled vaccine uses a harmless adenovirus as a carrier for the genetic code that teaches the body how to fight COVID-19.
As of Monday, the Chinese mainland had administered about 3.44 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines, according to data from the National Health Commission.
