On January 30, people held the "Manghao Festival" in Dapao Miao Village, a village of Anning Township in Rong'an County, Liuzhou. Villagers celebrated the Chinese New Year through activities such as dancing with Lusheng playing, sending blessings in the masquerade of Manghao, long-table banquet, and bonfire party. People dressed as "Manghao" sent Chinese New Year wishes to people along the road.

The Miao legend has it that "Manghao" is the blessed god of the Miao ethnic group. The Miao ancestors made masks with ancient trees, wore a raincoat made of rattan, and painted black ash on their faces to play the savage, successfully resisting the intrusion of mountain bandits and protecting the peace of their homes.
