Guangxi will invest 215.7 billion yuan ($31.49 billion) to further the construction of several expressways in 2023, officials of the Transport Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region announced on March 22.
Guangxi will make a total investment of over 300 billion yuan into comprehensive transportation construction in 2023, with that for expressways expanding by 13 percent year-on-year. The autonomous region plans to build more than 900 kilometers of new expressways, and in doing so, its total expressway mileage will exceed 9,000 km.
In 2022, Guangxi completed a total investment of 190.8 billion yuan for transportation infrastructure construction, accounting for 100.4 percent of its annual target, and ranking third in China for its road construction investment scale.
Last year, Guangxi fulfilled a historical target and connected all 111 counties and districts under its jurisdiction to its expressways. Additionally, the total length of Guangxi's in-use expressways ranked sixth in China in 2022.
Preparations for new expressway projects have already begun, such as the renovation of the Nanning-Baise section of the G80 Guangzhou–Kunming Expressway.
