The subway staff members at Wangfujing Subway Station in Beijing remove the slogan "Please wear masks throughout the journey" on April 14.
Beijing's buses and subways have stopped mandating passengers to wear masks, ECNS learned from insiders on Sunday.
"Beijing Metro now suggests passengers to wear masks but does not mandate it," a staff member of subway customer service told ECNS.
She added that they received the notification on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a customer service member from Beijing Public Transport Group gave the same reply, saying that currently the Beijing buses just “suggests” passengers to wear masks.
She added that they received the notification on April 10.
When asked if they would prevent passengers who don't wear masks from boarding, the staff members of both buses and subways said that they would not.
Currently, some of the epidemic prevention signs and broadcasts inside and outside some subway stations in Beijing have been removed. However, the vast majority of passengers still choose to wear masks now.
