On June 2, eight ophthalmologists from Nanxishan Hospital in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region departed for Laos as the third batch of Guangxi medical teams to support the China-aided "Cataract Blindness Elimination Project". The team will perform a 45-day cataract surgery plan in Vientiane to provide relief for those affected by cataract blindness. In March 2021, the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Hong Kong GX Foundation signed a memorandum of cooperation to jointly combat cataract blindness in Nanning. As part of this agreement, they initiated a foreign aid program in cataract blindness elimination project. Guangxi became the GX Foundation's first partner in this initiative to eliminate cataract blindness. Guangxi will dispatch ophthalmologists to perform cataract surgery for patients in Laos and Cambodia while also training local ophthalmologists in cataract surgery techniques. (Bo)
