The China Cultural Center in the city of Sydney in Australia and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on June 7 jointly launched an online exhibition showing Guangxi's fascinating intangible cultural heritage.

In China, intangible cultural heritage, or ICH, encompasses oral traditions, performing arts, social practices and the know-how and skills of traditional crafts. It is culture rooted in community, passed down from generation to generation that remains relevant in today's society.

The Sydney center's director, Xiao Xiayong, said the exhibition featured 28 short videos briefly introducing 28 national ICH items with unique Guangxi characteristics. It told the story of and showcased the Chinese experience of ICH protection, Xiao added.

The China Cultural Center in Sydney has selected five national ICH items as highlights - including Liu Sanjie's ballad and the technique for Zhuang brocade. They enable the audience to feel the beauty of hand-made works and the life wisdom contained in them.

As of June 2022, Guangxi had 70 representative national ICH items and 49 inheritors have been recognized as representative inheritors.
