A City-to-City Partnership Workshop on Strengthening Emergency Management and Resilient City Development between China and Cambodia was held on June 30 in Nanning, the capital of South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Xu Yongke, vice chairman of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, noted that the current year marked the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Cambodia diplomatic relations.

He said that Guangxi and Cambodia shared similar climatic and geographical conditions - facing similar challenges in natural disaster prevention and emergency management - and had great potential for future cooperation.

Cambodian officials said the establishment of the National Committee for Disaster Management (Cambodia) was aimed at strengthening information exchanges with the outside world.

It was also targeted at improving emergency management capabilities to respond to natural disasters, as well as enhancing post-disaster response and reconstruction efforts.

The event was held, based on the established sister-city relationships between Cambodia's Sihanoukville and Nanning - as well as between the Kep Province of Cambodia and Beihai - to learn from each other's experiences in building resilient cities and jointly improving the standards of such cities.

Discussions focused on the pressing issues of nature-based solutions to heighten urban resilience, the participation of social forces in dynamic city construction and disaster reduction and preparedness education for kids.
