No More Bets, a Chinese movie themed on overseas cyber fraud, will be released in nine countries from Aug. 25 to Oct. 5, its producer announced Thursday on the Chinese social platform Weibo.

The movie will reach the screens of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand at the end of August, of Malaysia, the UK, Ireland, and Singapore in September, and of Cambodia on October 5.

The release date in Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and other Southeast Asian countries will be published successively. It will be also on show in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

Data released by Maoyan, a Chinese film ticketing agency and film distribution company, the box office total of the movie has reached 2.1 billion yuan (about $288.39 million).

As the first Chinese movie exposing the inner workings of overseas online fraud, No More Bets is based on tens of thousands of real fraud cases, and the horrifying inside story of the entire industry chain of overseas cyber fraud.

In the movie, the programmer Pan Sheng and model Anna are lured to overseas by high-paid job offers, but they only find themselves falling into the trap of an overseas fraud factory.

The director, Shen Ao, had received threats before the movie met the public.

“We hope all people can know the strategies of cyber fraud via the movie,” it said on its official Weibo account.
