An Asian elephant happened to find 2.8 kilograms of opium in southwest China’s Yunnan Province, People’s Daily reported Tuesday.
The border police station in Mengman Town of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture received an alarm from local villagers that they had found four elephants roaming in nearby villages and the police rushed to the scene.
When the elephants moved forward, one of them suddenly stopped. It sniffed in the grass and threw a bag out. The police opened the bag and found it contained opium, totaling 2.8 kilograms.
The investigation is underway.
