The Leye-Fengshan World Geopark, which has been recognized as a world geopark by the UNESCO in 2010, was recently given another enormous accolade.
China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Ministry of Science and Technology announced the eighth list of national ecological environment science popularization bases, and the geopark made the list.
Located in Leye and Fengshan counties in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, the park is composed of the neighboring Leye Dashiwai National Geopark and the Fengshan Karst National Geopark, with a total area of 930 square kilometers.
The geopark features a unique subtropical karst geomorphology landscape, characterized by dense peaks, large caves, grand canyons, sinkhole clusters, underground rivers and more.
One of the core scenic areas in the park is Sanmenhai - located in Fengshan county, Hechi city - which is also the source of the Panyang River and is a human longevity region known worldwide.
The area consists of seven connected collapse-type sinkholes, where mountains, water and caves blend harmoniously, earning the praise of international geology and cave experts as the "Karst Geological Museum".
The air there contains over 10,000 negative oxygen ions per square centimeter, making it a natural oxygen bar.
