The vessel Xinggang 0066, loaded with cement containers, on Nov 13 departed the Jiangkou operating area in Liuzhou Port, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

It marked the opening of Phase I of the Jiangkou operating area of Liuzhou Port, which is a major project being coordinated and promoted by Guangxi.

It's located in Jiangkou township in Luzhai county. The waterway goes through the Liujiang River, the Xijiang River and the Pearl River main channel – providing direct access to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Southeast Asia.

The Jiangkou operating area is being planned and constructed in phases. It covers a total area of 1,200 mu (80 hectares) and will have 18 berths with a capacity of 2,000 metric tons each.

The designed annual throughput capacity of the berths is 7.5 million tons, making it the largest logistics transshipment port among the seven planned port areas of Liuzhou Port.

The project's completed Phase I has six 2,000-ton berths, including three for bulk cargo and three multi-purpose ones. The design annual throughput capacity of the berths is 2.6 million tons, mainly for containers and general cargo.

The full operation of the Jiangkou operating area is projected to provide strong support for the construction of the Pinglu Canal.

Moving forwards, it will enable goods from Liuzhou to directly reach Beibu Gulf Port via Jiangkou Port and the Pinglu Canal.

This is expected to not only meet customer's time requirements but also effectively reduce the mileage of road transportation, lower carbon emissions and minimize logistics costs.
