The city of Liuzhou in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region was recently chosen to be included in the first batch of 15 pilot cities for the full electrification of public service vehicles in the country.

That's according to an announcement made by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology made on Nov 14.

Other cities on the list include national capital Beijing, Guangdong's Shenzhen, Chongqing, as well as Sichuan's Chengdu and Henan's Zhengzhou.

The announcement was put forward as the cities are being encouraged to promulgate their experiences in models that can be widely promoted – playing a leading role in the commercialization of new energy vehicles and the construction of green and low-carbon transportation systems.

Liuzhou's advantage in being selected reportedly lies in its focus on the transformation and upgrading of the traditional automobile industry, as well as its establishment of the "Liuzhou Model" in developing the NEV sector.

The city currently has 12,000 NEVs serving the public sector, as well as 8,000 charging piles and 16 battery swapping stations.
