A delegation of 29 foreign media reporters and influencers toured Fangchenggang from Nov 25 to 27, where they learned about its economic and social development over the last 30 years.
The group first visited the Fangchenggang International Medical Pilot Zone, which focuses on advancing three sectors: medicine, medical treatment, and pharmaceuticals. Since construction on the zone began, efforts have been made to strengthen its high-quality development.
The delegation also visited Fangchenggang Port, which is a deep-water port along the southwestern tip of China's coastline. It faces Southeast Asia and borders the Beibu Gulf to the south, making it a core area of both the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone and the ASEAN Economic Circle.
The port is the most convenient gateway from China to ASEAN countries along the Indochinese Peninsula. It is also the shortest sea route from China to West Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceania.
Currently, the port features 44 berths, including 39 berths that have a handling capacity above 10,000 metric tons. Not only does it have 10 specialized terminals for iron ore, coal, grain, sulfur and phosphorus, liquid chemicals; but it also has five container berths that have a one-time storage capacity of over 17 million tons.
Fangchenggang is the historic home of the Jing ethnic group and is one of the important birthplaces of Beibu Gulf culture. At the Fangchenggang Jing Ethnic Museum, the delegation learned about the group's rich history and unique charm through images, models, multimedia, and audio-visual materials.
