The 2023 China-ASEAN Film Culture Week opened in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on Dec 20.

Films from six ASEAN countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, will be screened, making it the largest number of participating countries in the history of the event.

This year's event includes the China-ASEAN Film Paranoma, the China-ASEAN Film Co-creation and Development Forum, the China-ASEAN Film and Television Project Cooperation Seminar, as well as the transformation of excellent Guangxi literary works into film and television productions.

The event aims to support high-quality Chinese films in their efforts to go global, to introduce excellent films from ASEAN countries, and to promote better cooperation in industries of film, television and wireless broadcasting. Other goals include establishing talent exchange platforms, content aggregation platforms, and co-production project incubation platforms between China and ASEAN countries in the film industry.

Guangxi has been actively participating in a translation project that focuses on contemporary Chinese works and the adaptation of the Vietnamese film "A drift". The Chinese film "Huang Wenxiu" was sent to participate in film festivals and exhibitions in ASEAN countries, such as Malaysia and the Philippines.

This year, Guangxi has signed a memorandum of cooperation with relevant institutions in Malaysia, reaching consensus on cooperation to cultivate new talents in the performing arts and film and television industries.

Renowned Chinese director Tang Jili attended the opening ceremony and served as the "2023 China-ASEAN Film Co-creation Ambassador". He expressed that China and ASEAN are good neighbors and that both sides will engage in extensive exchanges during the 2023 China-ASEAN Film Culture Week.
