The Chinese mainland is willing to see and support the relaxation of quantities of Taiwan island's sorghum liquor which can be brought to the mainland by local residents on direct flights between the coastal areas of Fujian Province and Kinmen, Matsu, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said on Monday.
According to local customs authorities, the limit has been increased from previous four bottles per person to six bottles per person.
To facilitate cross-Straits travel, since 2006, mainland customs have gradually relaxed restrictions on the quantity of sorghum liquor that passengers traveling directly between the coastal areas of Fujian with Kinmen and Matsu can carry, increasing the limit from two bottles per person to four bottles per person, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said on Monday.
In recent years, there has been a strong demand from the residents of Kinmen and Matsu to further increase the quantity limit, Zhu noted.
In order to support the accelerated integration and development of Xiamen and Kinmen, Fuzhou and Matsu, and to create a "twin-cities-life-circle" among them, the mainland has actively responded to the aspirations of the people in Kinmen and Matsu, Zhu said.
"We believe that the implementation of this policy will bring more benefits to people of the isles, especially the residents of Kinmen and Matsu. As long as it is conducive to the deepening cross-Straits integration and development and contribute to the wellbeing of the people, we will make every effort to implement the positive measures for the benefit of all," Zhu noted.
