The State Council approved a national territorial spatial plan for Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region for the 2021-2035 period, according to an official reply released on Dec 22.
According to the reply, by 2035, the total area of cultivated land in Guangxi should be no less than 48.72 million mu, and the red line for ecological protection should not be less than 50,400 square kilometers.
Measures will be taken to align Guangxi with the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Hainan Free Trade Port, and serve construction of the new western land-sea corridor.
The reply stressed safeguarding ecological security barriers in southern China and strengthening ecological protection of river sources and areas with the greatest biodiversity reserve.
Meanwhile, the reply also noted to enhance building the city cluster around Nanning and foster the city cluster of Beibu Gulf.
In addition, the protection mechanism should be improved for cultural and natural heritages, including the Zuojiang Huashan Rock Art Cultural Landscape, Guilin Karst and Lingqu Canal, according to the reply.
