Myanmar's State Administration Council on Tuesday issued a new law amending the country's political parties registration law, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Wednesday.
The amending law, signed by the State Administration Council Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, was enacted under Section 419 of the Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, according to the media report.
In the new law, the minimum requirement for party membership was reduced from 100,000 to 50,000 members, and the minimum proportion of townships that parties have to operate in was reduced from half to one-third of all townships, according to the report.
The new law also included changes in the time frame for mobilizing party members and the definition of "by-election," the media report said.
