Installation of the 2nd phase of Shenhai-1, China's self-developed deep-sea gas field has been completed, China Offshore Oil Engineering Co Ltd announced on Wednesday.

The Shehai-1 field was connected to Yacheng gas field, forming China's first deep-sea gas field cluster in the South China Sea.

Located about 90 kilometers from Sanya, south Hainan Province, the 2nd phase has a total height of 136 meters and a total weight of 14,000 tons, consisting of a 100- meter-high jacket and a 7,500-ton top block.

The phase II project is a key facility for receiving and processing deep-water oil and gas on the deep-sea gas field. Connected to the Yacheng platforms, the four gas field platforms became a hub for offshore natural gas processing and transmission in the waters of South China Sea.

The Shenhai-1 project, which started production in June 2021, has a natural gas proven reserve of over 100 billion cubic meters, making it the deepest and most challenging offshore ultra-deep-water gas field independently developed by China.

Upon completion of the 2nd phase of the project, the reserve of the Shenhai-1 gas field will increase from 100 billion cubic meters to 150 billion cubic meters while its annual output could increase from 3 billion cubic meters to 4.5 billion cubic meters.
