Developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Co., China's first home grown hydrogen energy urban train successfully completed its test run on a trial line at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour in Changchun, northeast China's Jilin Province on Thursday.
The trial operation achieved full-system, full-scene and multi-level performance verification, marking a breakthrough in the application of hydrogen energy in the field of rail transit in China.
The train adopts a built-in hydrogen power system that can provide a strong and durable power source. Data from the trial run indicated that the average energy consumption of the urban train was 5-kilowatt hours at an overall international-leading level.
It applies a hybrid energy supply system and hydrogen-electric hybrid energy management and control system, reaching a maximum running range of 1,000 kilometers.
According to Wang Jian, deputy director of the Research Department at the CRRC Changchun, the company has also verified the actual performance of the hydrogen powered train at an ambient temperature of -25 to 35 degrees Celsius for the first time.
