On May 6, the 2024 United Nations (UN) Chinese Language Day celebrations kick off at the Vienna International Centre (VIC), Austria. This event was jointly hosted by the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the UN and other international organizations in Vienna, the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the UN Information Service (UNIS) Vienna, with the theme "Diverse Cultures and Romantic Scenery—Guangxi, China: A Vivid Story of Civilization and Development".
On May 5, Beijing time (May 4, local time), performers for the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 UN Chinese Language Day successively staged a series of flash mobs such as ethnic costume shows, folk music playing, and puppet shows at Wiener Stadtpark and the square in front of the Wiener Musikverein, attracting many local people and tourists from all over the world.
The week-long event consists of three sections: "Exchange and Mutual Learning of Civilizations", "Cultural Tourism Resources", and "Guilin: A World-class Tourist City". These activities showcased Guangxi's rich cultural history and vibrant ethnic customs to diplomatic envoys from various countries and over 5,000 international employees of the UN in Vienna. In addition, the achievements of China-ASEAN cooperation will be revealed during the 2024 UN Chinese Language Day.
