Shenzhen Airport in South China’s Guangdong Province has put the country's first pet waiting lounge into operation, offering separate areas for cats and dogs, with each pet having its own independent space.
The pet waiting lounge is located in domestic cargo area B1, covering an area of 210 square meters. The lounge is equipped with a comprehensive system that can monitor 24 hours a day for temperature, humidity, PM2.5, PM10, and ammonia levels.
An insider at Shenzhen Airport said that the previous method of transporting pets mixed with air cargo has been changed. Based on digital platforms and Internet of Things technology, a remote medical diagnosis system and sanitary measures have been introduced to provide services such as boarding and care for pets.
According to calculations by the China Development Institute(Shenzhen), the number of pet cats and dogs in the city has exceeded 500,000.
In recent years, Shenzhen has made concerted efforts to build a pet-friendly city.
A one-stop pet travel service is also being offered in the airport. Equipped with professional pet experts and advanced facilities, the service will provide pets with dedicated security check-in channels, personal care, regular patrols, on-demand feeding and watering, as well as free boarding services for pets stranded due to flight delays.
