Driven by the tangible progress of the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthened political and economic relations, Saudi Arabia aims to attract up to 5 million Chinese tourists by 2030, representing 8 percent of its total international visitors, said a senior Saudi government official.

During his visit to Beijing, Saudi Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Saudi Tourism Authority Ahmed Al-Khateeb said that Saudi Arabia is China-ready and welcomes all Chinese travelers with increased connectivity, customized products and strategic partnerships.

Saudi Arabia will invest $800 billion to upgrade its tourism landscape. This is part of its Vision 2030 plan, aimed at reducing dependence on oil revenues and promoting economic diversification.

Saudi Vision 2030 is a unique transformative economic and social reform blueprint that is opening Saudi Arabia up to the world, and boost the country's communication and coordination on regional and international affairs.

The investment will be used to develop new tourism infrastructure, build luxury resorts, cultural and entertainment projects, and promote Saudi Arabia's historical and natural landscapes to attract more international tourists.

The Saudi tourism minister mentioned that Saudi Arabia would offer Chinese tourists a variety of activities, including diving in the Red Sea, hiking in the mountains and touring historical sites.

He also noted that the country is preparing to launch its winter season tourism attractions, which will provide a range of experiences filled with entertainment, luxury, adventure and natural beauty, running from October to May.

For example, visitors can experience the vibrant energy of Saudi Arabia with live performances and gourmet dining, relax in the majestic beauty of AlUla, an ancient oasis city, or explore the historic city of Diriyah, he added.

Over the past year, Saudi Arabia has experienced an increase in Chinese visitors, establishing China as one of its leading source markets. As part of the Saudi Vision 2030, the initial target of attracting 100 million visitors has been surpassed seven years ahead of schedule, with a revised goal of 150 million by 2030.

To facilitate this growth, the kingdom has enhanced its visa processes by introducing a streamlined e-visa system, which can be completed online in just three minutes, as well as offering visas on arrival, and a complimentary 96-hour stopover visa to enhance traveler flexibility, according to information released by the country's tourism authority.

Since 2019, Saudi Arabia has offered electronic visas to residents of 66 countries and regions, with China being one of them.
