On Nov 8, the Guanyang-Pingle Expressway opened to the public, marking a significant step towards Guangxi's goal of a 10,000-kilometer expressway network.
Funded by Guangxi Communications Investment Group, the expressway is a crucial segment of the north-south G59 Hohhot-Beihai Highway as outlined in the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Transport (2013-2030).
Stretching 136.7 km with a total investment of 13.64 billion yuan ($1.89 billion), the four-lane expressway is designed for a maximum speed of 120 km per hour.
The expressway links six counties, including Guanyang, Gongcheng, Pingle, Yangshuo, and Lipu, further densifying the highway network in Guilin and reducing congestion by offering a bypass option during peak travel times.
It integrates scenic views, featuring notable sites like the Buji Grand Bridge. The Gongcheng Service Area exemplifies the "transport + tourism" model, enhancing the route's appeal.
The Guanyang-Pingle Expressway also establishes a new northbound route for Guigang, Yulin, and Beihai, promoting regional integration and supporting the development of agriculture, logistics, and tourism along the corridor.
