The ceremony of the Junma Awards for National Ethnic Minority Literature, held on Nov 16 in Nanning, celebrated the international resonance of Chinese ethnic literature.
Co-hosted by the China Writers Association, National Ethnic Affairs Commission, and Guangxi's government, the event recognized Hechi-born authors for their outstanding contributions.
Fan Yiping from Zhuang ethnic group in Hechi, author of Lovers of Shangling, won the award for short and medium novels. Fan's work reflects the resilience and warmth of rural life, showcasing ethnic culture through relatable human experiences. Fan called it a heartfelt gift to his hometown.
Hechi's Yao ethnic group writer Hongri's Village Diary also gained international attention through its Uyghur translation by Dongxiang translator Aibu, earning the Translation Award. The translator shared that the novel deeply resonated with him during his village residency and inspired him to connect cultures through literature.
The Junma Awards, China's premier ethnic literature honor, aim to promote national unity and cultural exchange. By fostering international translations and creative expression, the awards play a vital role in bringing China's ethnic stories to the global stage, showcasing the richness and diversity of its literary heritage.
