Shanghai Disney Resort began selling tickets online Friday for its upcoming reopening on May 11 after closing on Jan. 25 due to the novel coronavirus.
During the initial reopening period, advanced ticketing and reservations will be required to maintain limited attendance, and on-site ticket sales will be temporarily cancelled, according to the resort.
A limited number of tickets will be available each day to control capacity.
Visitors will be able to enjoy a special price of 499 yuan (about $70.5) for weekends, and regular date ticket prices will continue to be 399 yuan (about $56.3). Visitors can also purchase a half-day dated ticket, which is valid for entry to Shanghai Disneyland from 2:00 PM on any pre-selected date from May 11 through June 9, 2020.
After purchasing a ticket and prior to arriving at the resort, visitors should provide basic personal information for each guest visiting the park. This includes name, phone number, ID type and ID number via Shanghai Disney Resort’s official online channels, in order to generate a Shanghai Disneyland Reservation QR Code, which must be scanned before visitors enter the park.
The phased reopening, with precautions, shows the delicate balance between epidemic control and rebooting businesses, said Bai Guo, an assistant professor of strategy at China Europe International Business School.
All of Disney's 12 theme parks, including Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland in China, have been closed since January amid the threat of COVID-19.
