China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying on Sunday confirmed the death of Du Wei, the Chinese ambassador to Israel, on Twitter, hours after the envoy was found dead at his residence in coastal Herzliya.
"Deepest condolences to my colleague Ambassador Du Wei to Israel!" Hua tweeted without further information on the cause of Du's death.
The 57-year-old became ambassador to Israel in February.
Police investigating his death suspect natural causes, CCTV's reporter in Israel Sun Yanfeng said, citing local officials, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
