The Guangxi Transportation Department held a construction scheduling meeting on water transportation projects in Nanning, summarizing the water transportation construction results in the first half of the year and deploying work for the second half of the year.

In the first half of 2020, the total investment in water transportation construction in the region was 2.5 billion yuan ($359.07 million), accounting for 35 percent of the annual target task and an increase of 31 percent over the same period last year.

In order to ensure the completion of the annual investment target of 7 billion yuan ($1.01 billion), all relevant departments will take effective measures to accelerate the construction of major water transportation projects.

This year, Guangxi plans to start 13 new water transportation projects, which will be started in the second half of the year. The region has 19 continued projects, with a total investment of 745 million yuan, accounting for 21 percent of the annual target total. Nine projects are planned to be completed, with an investment of 1.28 billion yuan, accounting for 58 percent of the annual target.

In the future, Guangxi will further strengthen funding guarantees and take targeted measures to advance work in the second half of the year to ensure that major projects start construction as scheduled. Personnel, equipment, and capital investment input will be increased, while the implementation of the preliminary work agency system will be accelerated.
