Maoming recently became the first city in South China's Guangdong province to allow people from outside the city to handle government affairs services in the city.
Since Sept 21, people from Yulin in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region can handle 25 government affairs services in Maoming, while people from Maoming can deal with 31 kinds of government affairs services in eight fields like public security, education, and civil affairs in Yulin.
The 25 government affairs services that people from Yulin can handle in Maoming include reapplying for a driving license or a resident identification card, applying for unemployment compensation, as well as filing for medical treatment. They cover the six fields of public security, human resources and social security, market inspection and management, housing provident fund, ecological environment, as well as medical insurance.
The cooperation in government affairs services between Maoming and Yulin is one of the efforts to explore the integrated development of public service systems in the Beibu Gulf city clusters.
Ms Li, who is a resident of Maoming originally from Yulin that planned to go back to her hometown to apply for unemployment compensation, just finished her application in Maoming.
"Previously, if I wanted to apply for unemployment compensation, I had to go back to Yulin and needed to spend several days there," she said. "But now I just need to submit some application materials to staff at the administrative service center, and my application is done in about 15 minutes."
"It is very convenient and saves me transportation fare, time, as well as effort," she added.
