Throughput of international cargo at Nanning Wuxu International Airport topped 10,000 metric tons on Dec 28.
Airport officials said that was the first time it crossed that threshold and on the day the cumulative total for the year reached 10,002.8 tons, an increase of 280.5 percent on the same period last year.
Officials said what makes the result even more extraordinary, is that many of the passenger air routes were suspended due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus this year, causing a decline in transportation capacity by airplane holds.
However, the international logistics business nonetheless experienced high cargo demand, they said.
The Guangxi Airport Group devoted great efforts to helping air cargo companies resume their operations. It introduced innovations to increase cargo handling capacity, including adapting passenger planes for use in freight.
Efforts were also made in areas such as accelerating infrastructure construction at the airport and opening fast-track channels for international imported fresh goods.
