Bama Yao autonomous county will take full advantage of its environmental advantages, speed up the construction of the Shenzhen-Bama pilot zone, and develop and modernize its agricultural systems in order to become a source of high-quality agricultural products for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Lan Haizhou, head of Bama Yao autonomous county and deputy to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional People's Congress, made the comments in an interview on Jan 24 during the fourth session of the 13th Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional People's Congress, which was held in Nanning from Jan 21 to 25.

Bama has been devoting increased efforts to becoming a production base for high-quality and distinctive agricultural products spanning cereals, oil, meat, poultry, eggs, milk, fungi, fruit and vegetables, with the aim of better meeting the demands of the Greater Bay Area market.

The county has been working with scientific research institutes from home and abroad such as the Shenzhen Agricultural Genome Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to carry out scientific innovation and cooperation in areas spanning the transplant of Bama miniature pigs and research into the healthy microecology of Bama.

Platforms allowing consumers in the Greater Bay Area to directly purchase Bama's distinctive products have been set up in Guangdong’s Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

Lan said that Bama will push forward the construction of several expressway projects such as the Bama-Pingguo-Nanning expressway and the Bama-Tiandong-Pingxiang expressway to shorten the distance between Bama and the Greater Bay Area.

In addition, Bama will strive to undertake more industrial transfers from Shenzhen in order to become a demonstration zone for the integrated development of eastern and western China.
