The first batch of tangerines from Wuming district in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, passed their customs quarantine and departed for Brunei on Jan 29, officials from the United Front Work Department of the CPC Guangxi Committee said on Jan 30.
The batch of tangerines, weighing 7,680 kilograms, has a value of around 92,160 yuan ($14,278). It was the first batch of its kind to be exported to Brunei from Nanning, and also the first of its kind to be exported to the ASEAN market.
It is expected that the export of these tangerines will help distinctive Guangxi agricultural products expand their markets in ASEAN and countries alongside the Belt and Road.
Being one of the country's major plantation areas for tangerines, Wuming district has seen the rapid development of its tangerine industry in recent years.
The cooperation framework agreement for exporting Wuming tangerines to ASEAN countries was signed during the second Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs and Leaders Exchange and Cooperation Conference, which was held in Nanning from Oct 20 to 22.
Officials from the United Front Work Department of the CPC Guangxi Committee said that the department has teamed up with relevant departments and companies - including Yongzhou Customs and the Wuming agriculture and rural affairs bureau - to help process procedures such as quarantine, transportation and declaration.
