Guangxi speeds up transport network construction

Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region will speed up the construction of a comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network in 2021, officials from the Guangxi Transportation Department announced on Jan 28.

The annual target for Guangxi's fixed-asset investment in transportation will reach 220 billion yuan ($34.11 billion) in 2021. The year marks the start of plans for the region to be developed as a nationwide leader in transportation.

Nanning, capital city of Guangxi, will be built into a comprehensive transportation hub.

Guangxi will strive to begin construction work on six railway projects in 2021 including the Hepu-Zhanjiang high-speed railway, and will continue to build nine projects including the Guiyang-Nanning high-speed railway.

A total of 33 highways stretching an overall length of 2,334 kilometers will start construction in 2021, and the construction of 41 highways with a length of 3,354 km will be continued. Six highways totaling 519 km in length will be put into operation, bringing the overall length of highways in Guangxi to more than 7,300 km.

The region will start construction of seven projects including the navigation facilities of the Baise water conservancy project, push forward 20 projects including the 2000-metric-ton channel between Laibin and Guiping, and complete six projects such as the first phase of the entry channel to the Tanyou operation area in the Qisha Port Area, Fangchenggang.

Guangxi will cooperate with relevant departments in the preliminary work of Fangchenggang airport and Hezhou airport and will devote efforts to promoting the start of Nanning Wuxu International Airport's renovation and expansion project as early as possible.

Construction of the Nanning mail processing center will start this year, and five other projects, including the SF innovative industrial bases in Nanning and Liuzhou, are scheduled to be put into operation this year.

The Nanning Metro Line 5 is set to start trial operations in 2021 and the construction of Liuzhou metro lines 1 and 2 will begin.

Efforts will also be made in areas such as the building of the transportation system for the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, the construction of the transportation channel connecting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the integration of transportation between Beihai, Qinzhou, and Fangchenggang.
