Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region made a total fixed asset investment of 120.4 billion yuan ($18.65 billion) in roads during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), 1.53 times the figure invested during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-15), officials said during a work conference on Feb 23.

The growth rate of Guangxi's investment in road construction has been nationally pioneering, and Guangxi's overall investment volume in constructing roads accounted for 20 percent of the region's total fixed-asset investment in transportation infrastructure.

During the last five years, the length of roads at or above national second level has seen an increase of 3,633 kilometers, and the ratio of roads at or above national second level to all roads in Guangxi is now 72.12 percent. 

Currently, Guangxi has cultivated five national demonstration counties or county-level areas for well-constructed rural roads, namely Lipu city, Nanning's Qingxiu district, Rongshui Miao autonomous county, Fengshan county and Pingnan county. A total of 30 other counties or county-level areas were listed as regional demonstrations for well-constructed rural roads.
