Guangxi is expected to invest more than 3 billion yuan ($459 million) in transport construction, officials from the Finance Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region announced on April 6.

As an important node on the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, Guangxi has proposed the creation of an efficient and convenient transport and logistics network connecting the ASEAN, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, central and western China.

A fund of 1.97 billion yuan will be used for building railways and expressways in Guangxi in 2021, including the Guiyang-Nanning railway, the Nanning-Chongzuo railway, the Nanning-Yulin railway, the Liuzhou-Wuzhou railway, the Yulin-Lipu expressway and the Leye-Baise expressway.

A competitive regional airport cluster will be built in the region, with 700 million yuan being put towards the renovation and expansion of Nanning Wuxu International Airport, as well as the launch of new airlines.

Efforts will be made to resume the operation of civil aviation routes to capital cities of ASEAN countries, such as Vientiane in Laos and Hanoi in Vietnam, which have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The region is also scheduled to open one or two full cargo airlines to Southeast Asia and South Asia.

Projects such as the construction of the 3,000 metric ton shipping channel between Guigang and Wuzhou on the Xijiang shipping trunk line and the 2,000 ton shipping channel between Laibin and Guiping, will be built at a cost of 457 million yuan. This will upgrade the inland waterway shipping network of the Xijiang River in order to facilitate transport with the Greater Bay Area.
