Nandan Industrial Park in Hechi's Nandan county is striving to become the world's largest lead and zinc production base, officials from the park's administrative commission said on April 7.

The park is a global pioneer in terms of its production techniques and environmental protection level.

Nandan county is rich in nonferrous metal resources and its reserves of more than 20 kinds of nonferrous metal - such as tin, antimony, zinc and indium - has been proven. The total reserves of these nonferrous metals stand at 11 million metric tons.

Nandan, known as "China's tin capital" and "the hometown of nonferrous metal", ranks top in China in terms of its tin reserves and second countrywide in terms of its antimony and lead reserves.

Nandan has implemented a series of environmentally-friendly manufacturing techniques since 2006. By using nearby facilities such as the Lugang logistics park and Guizhou-Guangxi railway, as well as the 500-ton cargo wharf in Wu'ai, Nandan has become the largest lead and zinc production base in China, as well as a demonstration base for green production and the circulation of nonferrous metal, a committee official said.

Nandan will now push forward progress on several nonferrous metal manufacturing projects.

The county has invested 3.96 billion yuan ($604.8 million) in a zinc green manufacturing project this year. It is expected that zinc production capacity will double after the completion of the project.

In addition, Nandan has focused on pursuing projects related to the deep processing industry chain of zinc, lead, tin, and antimony, effectively making Nandan the world's largest lead and zinc production base.
