All 14 cities in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region will have access to high-speed trains after four high-speed trains that are currently under construction become operational.
The operational mileage of Guangxi railways reached 5,206 kilometers by the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20) and 1,771 of them are for high-speed trains, ranking among the frontier countrywide.
The 119.3-kilometer Nanning-Chongzuo High-speed Rail has a designated speed limit of 250 km per hour, will start operation in 2022, and is located in southwest Guangxi. The railway has four stations, namely Nanning Station, Wuxu Airport Station, South Fusui Station and Chongzuo South Station.
Once operational, it will enable seamless transit between high-speed trains and flights as it will shorten the travel between downtown Nanning to Nanning Wuxu International Airport to 12 minutes. Passengers will be able to travel between Nanning and Chongzuo in 30 minutes, which used to take two hours.
The Guiyang-Nanning High-speed Rail is Guangxi's first of its kind with a designated speed of 350 km/h. Stretching 482 km, the railway will open in 2023, and will operate in northwest Guangxi and southeast Guizhou province. It will shorten the travel time between Nanning and Guizhou's Guiyang in around two hours from the previous time of over five hours, and is expected to effectively boost the integration of transportation, logistics, commerce and industry of Guangxi and Guizhou.
The 193-km Nanning-Yulin High-speed Rail is set to start operation next year and will allow passengers in Nanning to reach Yulin in around 50 minutes. It is also an important part of the Nanning-Shenzhen High-speed Rail, helping accelerate Guangxi's integration into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The Fangchenggang-Dongxing High-Speed Rail, which is also expected to start operation in 2023, will put an end to the history of no high-speed trains in both Fangchenggang and Dongxing. Travel time between two cities will be cut from the previous 60 minutes to 20.
