Air China has taken delivery of its A350 wide-body aircraft in north China's Tianjin on Thursday, powered by domestic-made sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on its delivery flight.
SAF is a sustainable alternative fuel comprising animal fat waste, vegetable oil, urban waste, agricultural and forestry waste as raw materials.
The SAF applied in this delivery was refined and produced by Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co with waste catering oil as raw material, which can reduce carbon emissions by up to 85 percent from raw material collection to end-user stage compared with traditional fossil fuels.
The fuel was approved by the Civil Aviation Administration in September and obtained first certification from the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials issued by System Certification Services.
This is another exploration of Air China in the field of SAFafter it conducted China’s first sustainable biofuel flight in 2011.
Air China has become the first domestic airline company to take delivery of wide-body aircraft using locally produced SAF. It is also the first airline company in China to apply SAF to Airbus and Boeing.
