The cargo and container throughput volumes of Guangxi's Beibu Gulf Port in 2022 ranked 10th and ninth countrywide, according to the 2022 Statistical Data of China's Ports, which was recently released by the Ministry of Transport.
Beibu Gulf Port's cargo throughput volume in 2022 increased by 3.7 percent to 370 million metric tons and the growth rate surpassed the average level of national coastal ports, which stood at 1.5 percent.
The container throughput of the port surged by 16.8 percent year-on-year to 7.02 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) last year.
Its growth rate was much higher than the average level of national coastal ports, which was 4.6 percent. It also ranked in the top 10 in the statistical data for the fifth consecutive year, the longest among national coastal ports. Moreover, Beibu Gulf Port was also the only one of China's 11 international hub ports that maintained a double-digit growth last year.
In recent years, the global standing of Beibu Gulf Port has been increasing. It ranked 28th globally in terms of container throughput in the 2021 Global Ports Development Report released by Shanghai International Shipping Institute, moving six places forward.
Beibu Gulf Port has also been making full use of the opportunities brought by the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement (RCEP) and has opened several direct shipping routes to RCEP countries. Among them, 36 are to ASEAN countries and nine are to Hong Kong.
The total volume of cargo transported to RCEP countries via the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in 2022 reached 69,000 TEUs, increasing by 9.7 percent year-on-year.
