At the turn of two years, it is the peak season of production and sales of Orah mandarin. Pan Yanchun, a farmer in Wuming District of Nanning, grows 20 mu (1.33 hectares) of Orah mandarin. She told the reporter that due to the less rain last year, the yield was slightly lower than that of previous years, but the quality of the fruit was much higher than previous ones.
Since the introduction of Orah mandarin in 2012, Wuming District of Nanning has only spent about 10 years increasing the planting area of Orah mandarin from the original 800 mu (53.33 hectares) to 460,000 mu (30,666.6 hectares), with an output of 1.5 million tons, building a fruit industry worth more than RMB 10 billion. Wuming District has built an Orah mandarin trading market to deal with production and matchmaking. At the same time, it incubated and introduced primary processing plants for post-harvest commercial processing of fruits. After sorting, processing, refrigeration, and other links, the added value of products has been increased, and the preservation period and supply period of fresh fruits have been extended, thus increasing the income of local farmers.
Guangxi"s high-quality Orah mandarin is not only popular in the Chinese fruit market, but also exported to ASEAN and the Middle East by virtue of the RCEP. Last December, 9000 kg of "Jinguang-1" Orah mandarin was exported to Singapore for the first time.
The development of Wuming Orah mandarin is just an epitome of the high-quality development of Guangxi"s fruit industry. Since 2018, Guangxi's fruit output has ranked first in China for five consecutive years.
