Data from Chinese authorities shows that about 10.4 million visitors swept tombs in an environmentally-friendly way on Qingming Festival, which fell on Wednesday this year, accounting for 69.45 percent of the total number of people who paid their respects on site.
A total of 40,544 funeral and interment service institutions across the country opened for on-site memorial services, receiving 14.9678 million visitors for on-site memorial services, data from Ministry of Civil Affairs shows.
Funeral service institutions across the country interred a total of 28,900 sets of ashes, among which 1,263 were interred using green and ecological methods such as sea burial and tree burial, accounting for approximately 4.38 percent of the total number of interments.
From April 1 to 5, the number of visitors who chose the environmentally-friendly and low-carbon way of memorial service was 38.7221 million, accounting for 67.55 percent of the total, data shows.
